MINER SWIMMERS HEAD TO WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY
ROLLA, Mo. After returning to the pool this past weekend at the University of Missouri- Columbia, the University of Missouri-Rolla swimming team will compete at the Washington University Invitational Friday and Saturday in St. Louis.
The Miners lost the meet at Mizzou by the score of 122-75. UMR had two winning performances Saturday, which came from Bruno Amizic (Split, Croatia) in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:08.75, and from the 400-yard freestyle relay team of John Reiter (St. Louis, Mo.), Josh Jolly (Conway, Ark.), Steve Caruso (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood Central) and Vanja Dezelic (Zagreb, Croatia). Their time was 3:10.31.
UMR got second place showings from Dezelic in the 1,000-freestyle in 10:11.46, David Nurre (Lewisville, Texas) in the 200-freestyle in 1:45.01, Dave Belleville (Chesterfield, Mo./Marquette) in the 50-freestyle in 21.45 and 100-freestyle in 46.62 seconds, Matt Scott (St. Louis, Mo./DeSmet) in the 200-butterfly in 1:57.83, and Sean Garceau (San Diego, Calif./Mount Carmel) in the 200-breaststroke in 2:15.59.
Mike Lach (Lenexa, Kan./Shawnee Mission West) had a third place showing in the 50- freestyle in 22.07 seconds, as did Caruso in the 200-butterfly (1:58.67), Nurre in the 500- freestyle (4:52.00) and Ben Karstens (Littleton, Colo./Dakota Ridge) in the 200-backstroke (1:59.84).
