DUDENHOEFFER FINISHES WITH 71, PLACES 11TH AT REGIONAL

BOLIVAR, Mo. – Craig Dudenhoeffer shot a one-under-par 71 in the final round of the NCAA Central Regional here this afternoon, putting him in a tie for 11th place at the three-day event.

The final round performance by the Miner senior, which tied the lowest score of the afternoon among the 44 players, gave Dudenhoeffer a final score of 227 in the regional. His performance, however, may not get him into the NCAA Championships in two weeks due to the number of players who finished ahead of him in the regional.

Washburn, which won the Central Regional by 27 shots over Central Missouri State, had four individuals among the top 10. Of the seven other players who finished among the top 12 in the tournament (including the tie for 11th), four play for Central Missouri State or Missouri Southern, who are hoping to receive at-large bids as teams when those selections are announced Friday.

That leaves three others -- Pittsburg State's Johnathan Ziolo and Southwest Baptist's Dusty Smith and David Coutchie -- who also finished ahead of Dudenhoeffer in the regional that came from teams that will not advance to the national tournament. The NCAA will select the two players with the lowest average on the season to take part in the national tournament.

Dudenhoeffer averaged 76.5 shots per round during the 2002-03 season.

UMR's other competitor in the Central Regional, Jason Cahill, finished in a tie for 23rd after shooting a 75 Wednesday to finish at 233.

Washburn's Matt Warnock, who had the best round of the event with a 69 on Tuesday, won medalist honors with a score of 214. He shot an even-par 72 on the opening day and a 73 to wrap up the title this afternoon. The Ichabods had a team score of 884 -- just 20 over par -- to win the regional title.

Ferris State shot an 895 to win the Great Lakes Regional in Bolivar, beating out Findlay in a much closer race. Findlay finished just seven shots behind the winners.
