EMPORIA, Kan. -- The Lady Miners' winless streak reached six games Saturday as they could not overcome an early 2-0 deficit in an eventual 4-1 loss to Emporia State in MIAA action.

UMR is now 0-5-1 in its last six contests and 4-9-3 overall heading into Sunday's season finale at Northwest Missouri State. The Lady Miners are 3-6-2 in the MIAA and fell one point behind ESU for fourth place in the conference. Since the Lady Hornets finished their season today, UMR can catch or pass them tomorrow for fourth place with a tie or victory.

A tie is worth one point in the league standings and a win is worth three.

Emporia State grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the contest on goals by Hilary Laird at 11:22 and Vanessa Lowry at 22:43. UMR cut the lead to one late in the first half when Kacey Morris scored off an assist by Tara Hammond at 40:03.

However, the Lady Hornets got two more shots past UMR's Ana Mora in a span of 32 seconds midway through the second half, as Amber Hearrell scored an unassisted goal at 66:12 and then assisted on Melissa Boeckel's goal at 66:44.

ESU outshot the Lady Miners 14-10 in the game; Mora was credited with two saves.

UMR will face Northwest at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Maryville, Mo.
