HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. -- The Miner soccer team avenged one of its most disappointing losses of the 2000 season Sunday by routing host Northern Kentucky 5-0.

UMR got two goals from Luke Enna and kept the Norse scoreless in improving to 9-4-2 heading into their season finale Wednesday at Lincoln. NKU, who scored a late goal to beat the Miners 3-2 in Rolla last season, fell to 10-8 with the loss.

UMR got on the board just 7:29 into play when Ryan Coates took a lead pass from Jeff Leonard and chipped the ball by NKU goalkeeper Nate Madden. About six and a half minutes later, Enna got the first of his two goals by converting a cross from Leonard.

In the second half, Enna made it 3-0 as he headed in a crossing pass at the 53:34 mark. Jeremy Bruno and Sean Ackley were credited with the assists.

Ackley got a goal of his own at 72:43 when he scored on a breakaway, making it 4-0. Andy Becker then got his first career goal at 77:19 when Wes Trueblood sprung him on a breakaway.

Todd Wilfling, playing in his home state for the Miners for just the second time in his career, was credited with four saves as he registered his 14th career shutout.

UMR finishes its season Wednesday with a make-up game against Lincoln in Jefferson City, Mo. Game time will be 3 p.m.
