Missouri-Rolla Men's Soccer

ROLLA, Mo. -- The UMR men's soccer team didn't quite get the result it desired --or probably needed -- Friday night in its game against SIU-Edwardsville. But it wasn't for lack of effort.

The Miners ended up in a 1-1 overtime tie against 10th-ranked SIUE, as a goal by Justin McMillian with 14:41 to play forced the tie. Neither team scored in the 30 minutes of overtime.

As a result, it is unlikely that the Miners will be able to move past the Cougars in the regional rankings before the end of the season. UMR entered the game ranked fourth in the regional while SIUE was second, and a win by the Miners may have pushed them past the Cougars in the rankings due to a strong record in the region.

UMR, which played without two starters due to injuries, jumped on top at the 13:02 mark of the game when Luke Enna took a pass from Jeremy Bruno, then went by an SIUE defender near the end line and got a shot past goalkeeper Matt Evers.

Both teams had great chances for goals over the next 60 minutes of play, but it was McMillian who got the next goal, as he took Cress Maddox's pass in front and tapped a shot past UMR keeper Todd Wilfling to even the score.

The Miners had a tremendous opportunity moments later to take the lead back when E.J. Klapperich got a shot past a prone Evers to an open net, but Chris Camacho dove at the ball and headed it away before it went in the net -- a save that certainly saved the game for the Cougars.

UMR outshot the Cougars 20-10 in the game. Wilfling was credited with one save, while Evers made five for SIUE (14-1-3). The tie ended a 10-game winning streak for the Cougars.

The Miners (8-4-2) return to action Sunday at Northern Kentucky.
