Missouri-Rolla
Men's Soccer
Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001
ROLLA, Mo. -- The Miners would certainly trade about three-fourths of the shots they took tonight for just one that would have gone in the net in regulation time.
Instead, a scoreless game ended up in overtime, where 9:24 into the extra period, Missouri-St. Louis' Mike Stegman scored to give the Rivermen a 1-0 win at the UMR Soccer Complex.
The Rivermen (3-4-2) won the game despite being outshot 30-7 in the game. However, UMSL goalie Mike Brockman was up to the task as he made 12 saves, including one on a penalty kick by John McQueary with just over 16 minutes to play in regulation.
Stegman's goal, which came after he received Kyende Bormentar's corner kick across the penalty area, ended a scoreless string by the Miner defense and goalkeeper Todd Wilfling at 331 minutes and 54 seconds. UMR had posted back-to-back shutouts over William Woods and Truman prior to Wednesday night.
The Miners, who fell to 3-3-1 on the year, will host Rockhurst Saturday at 6 p.m. as part of Homecoming weekend at UMR.
