ROLLA, Mo. -- Southern Indiana's John Havill and Matt Settles scored goals in the second half to allow the Eagles to rally for a 2-1 win over Missouri-Rolla in the Miners' home opener Saturday.
The Miners -- who outshot USI by a 21-10 margin in the game -- took the lead with 3:48 left in the first half when Jeff Leonard scored on a shot from 15 yards out. That goal held up until Havill ripped a shot from about 20 yards away past Miner goalie Quentin Gehring at the 68:41 mark.
Just over nine minutes later, Settles scored the game-winner off a feed from Ed Peiper to give USI its first win of the year. The Miners fell to 1-1 with the loss.
Gehring was credited with three saves for UMR, who will play Wednesday at the University of Indianapolis.
