Lab O4: impulse and collision

Objectives:
Use a force transducer to measure F(t) vs. t during the collision of an air track glider with the force transducer and relate this to the Impulse.

Left: metal spring bumper. Center: cart. Top: flag. Right: rubber bumper.

The metal spring bumper connects to one end of the cart.
The flag goes on top, and the rubber bumper goes on the other end.

Top view of the air supply connected to two rails by air hoses.
Top right is the photogate (connects to pasco interface) with cart on rail.
The flag triggers the photo gate.
Rubber and metal spring bumpers shown and not attached.

Front view of air supply.
"Air output" dial should be set to maximum
(gives the minimum friction between cart and rail).

Hose from air supply is plugged into rail.

The force sensor is at one end of the rail.
It is also plugged into the Pasco interface.

The cart with flag passes under the photogate
prior to impacting the force sensor.
