GREEK JUDICIAL BOARD – PROCESS
The following guide is supplied to educate individuals on the process through which incidents are reported and how action may be taken, and by whom.
How an incident is reported
- A completed report is submitted to Fraternity &
Sorority Life: If an incident report is submitted in this manner,
Student Life staff will negotiate the applicable investigation (if
necessary), formulate a report, and meet with parties to discuss potential
outcomes.
- Information is obtained via police report or other non-student report : If an incident is reported by UMR PD, RPD, or another non-student entity, Student Life staff will negotiate the applicable investigation (if necessary), formulate a report, and meet with parties to discuss potential outcomes.
Outcomes and decisions
- Fraternity & Sorority Life staff : Fraternity & Sorority Life staff has the option of offering the organization proposed informal sanctions which it feels appropriate. The organization has the option of accepting responsibility for the alleged behavior and thus, accepting the informal sanctions. If the organization does not accept responsibility, they may appeal.
- Fraternity & Sorority Life staff : Fraternity & Sorority Life staff also has the option of immediately forwarding the report to the Greek Judicial Board for deliberation and comment. The organization in question has the option of accepting responsibility for the alleged behavior and thus, accepting the informal sanctions. If the organization does not accept responsibility, they may appeal.
Accepting sanctions
- Sanctions from Fraternity & Sorority Life : If the organization in question accepts responsibility, and thus accepts sanctions proposed from Fraternity & Sorority Life, the organization will be expected to complete the required action within the time outlined in the sanction. If the organization does not, a meeting will be organized with Fraternity & Sorority Life to review lack of compliance.
- Sanctions from Greek Judicial Board : If the organization in question accepts responsibility, and thus accepts sanctions proposed from the Greek Judicial Board, the organization will be expected to complete the required action within the time outlined in the sanction. If the organization does not, a meeting will be organized with the Greek Judicial Board to review lack of compliance.
Right of appeal
- Appeal of sanctions from Fraternity & Sorority Life : If the organization in question does not accept responsibility, and thus does not accept the sanctions proposed from Fraternity & Sorority Life, the organization has the option of appealing to the Greek Judicial Board. The Greek Judicial Board will then review all information related to the alleged incident, and will provide comment.
- Appeal of sanctions from Greek Judicial Board : If the organization in question does not accept responsibility, and thus does not accept the sanctions proposed from the Greek Judicial Board, the organization has the option of appealing to Student Rights and Responsibilities. Student Rights and Responsibilities will then review all information related to the alleged incident, and will provide comment.
