The Department
of the Army offers a wide range of scholarships. Whether you are
in high school, already in college, or an enlisted soldier, the
Army has a scholarship for you!
Army ROTC Scholarships provide financial assistance for the education
and training of motivated young men and women who desire to serve
as Army officers after graduating from college.
If awarded a scholarship,
the Army will pay up to $20,000 a year for your tuition, provide
$900 a year for books and supplies, and give you monthly spending
money ranging from $250 for freshmen to $400 for seniors while school
is in session.
Four-year
Scholarships:
Four-year National
Scholarship: Four-year scholarships are available to high school
seniors. Students apply for the scholarship during their junior
or senior year. Each school awards scholarships to the most qualified
applicants. The application process begins during the spring semester
of the junior year and extends through the senior year. Applications
received by November 15th of the senior year stand the best chance
of being selected. Applications received by 1 October will be considered
for the first round of offers. Scholarship offers are made from
October through April. Apply on-line at www.armyrotc.com.
Four-year Green to Gold (GTG) Scholarship: This scholarship is available
to active duty enlisted soldiers. The GTG scholarship provides the
same incentives as all other ROTC scholarships. These scholarships
may be utilized at the Army ROTC program of choice. Applications
must be received by April 1st of the award year. Contact your chain
of command for more information.
Three-year
scholarships:
Three-year Advanced Designee: Three-year Advanced Designee (3-yrAD)
scholarships are given to qualified applicants who do not receive
a four-year scholarship. This scholarship provides the same incentives
as the four-year scholarship but the benefits do not begin until
the first day of the sophomore year. MST provides a Loan Forgiveness
Program to help offset the first year’s costs. Under this
program, the 3-yrAD winner takes out a loan with the university
to cover tuition and fees. As long as the winner maintains scholarship
eligibility and commissions through the Stonehenge Battalion, the
university will forgive one-third of the cost each year the cadet
is in the program. This essentially turns a 3-yrAD scholarship into
a four-year scholarship.
Three-year Campus Based:
You may apply for a three-year scholarship during your freshman
year. If awarded, this scholarship will provide the same benefits
as other Army ROTC scholarships beginning the first day of the sophomore
year.
Two-year Green to Gold (GTG: This scholarship is identical to the
four-year GTG scholarship except that it provides benefits for soldiers
who are within two years of obtaining a degree. The eligibility
requirements and deadlines are the same. Contact your chain of command
for more information.
Two-Year
Scholarships:
Campus Based. You apply for this scholarship
during your sophomore year on campus. In order to be eligible, you
must have completed the first two years of ROTC or completed Army
Basic Training.
Leaders Training Camp (LTC). This scholarship is available to students
who have not completed Basic Training or the first two years of
ROTC. If qualified, you attend ROTC LTC at Fort Knox, Kentucky for
28 days, get paid approximately $700, all expenses paid (travel,
food, lodging). While at LTC you will receive training in a variety
of leadership positions and military skills. Scholarships are awarded
on a competitive basis.
Green-to-Gold. If you are currently on active duty and will have
two years of active duty before school starts and are accepted by
a college or university. As a freshman, sophomore or junior, you
can compete for an Active Duty Green to Gold four-, three-or two-year
scholarship. The deadline for applying is 1 April. Selection deadline
is 20 May.
Veterans
/ Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP):
You are not required to have a scholarship to be in ROTC. Those
who do not receive scholarships may still enroll in ROTC, complete
college and embark on an Army career as an officer. This is a great
program for those with prior service on active duty or in the reserves.
By doing this at the beginning of your junior year you may serve
in the Guard or Reserve as a cadet in the SMP at the grade of E-5.
You get paid $350 a month from ROTC, a $350 kicker from ROTC, $150
a month from the reserve for each drill weekend, and you may be
eligible for other financial benefits.
