Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project
This project is replacing almost 12 percent of Interstate 95 (the Capital Beltway) with two new wider bridges, four new interchanges and Beltway improvements throughout its 7.5-mile corridor. These improvements are critically needed as daily trips across the bridge are projected to increase from 200,000 daily trips to 300,000 trips by 2020. Project includes:
Two side-by-side 6,075 foot-long drawbridges
Ten conventional highway lanes
Four new interchanges
Two additional lanes for alternative transportation options
New lane configuration to separate local and long-distance travelers
New pedestrian/bike paths, parks and other community amenities
Construction Site
There are several deep excavation sites in progress - we will visit one such site close to the National Mall.
